The Legacy Behind the Tadeusz Kosciuszko 280th Birthday
Today, we celebrate the Tadeusz Kosciuszko 280th birthday, honoring our namesake whose ideals of liberty, equality, and learning have guided the mission of The Kosciuszko Foundation for over a century.
Kościuszko believed that freedom begins with knowledge, once stating:
“We are all equals; riches and education constitute the only difference.”
Inspired by Kościuszko’s vision, Polish immigrant Stephen Mizwa established the Kosciuszko Foundation more than a century ago to expand access to education and opportunity. From the beginning, the Foundation has empowered individuals, strengthened the Polish American community, and built lasting bridges between Poland and the United States.
The Tadeusz Kosciuszko 280th birthday is a powerful reminder of how his vision continues to shape educational exchange between Poland and the United States. Today, that mission is more vital than ever. Each year, the Kosciuszko Foundation awards up to $2 million in educational programs, helping students, scholars, and artists turn opportunity into achievement.
As we commemorate the Tadeusz Kosciuszko 280th birthday, we renew our commitment to expanding opportunity through scholarships and academic programs. Donate today to help found the KF’s academic and exchange programs via the red donate button on the top of our website.
