Special Presentation by Dr. Patrice Dabrowski

“Crowning Achievements: On the Millennium of the First Polish Coronation”

What is the significance of the year 1025 for the Polish state, then and now?

In this timely and thought-provoking talk, acclaimed historian Dr. Patrice Dabrowski will explore the historic coronation of Bolesław I the Brave (Bolesław Chrobry)—Poland’s first king—and reflect on its lasting importance. As Poles mark 1000 years since this landmark event, Dr. Dabrowski will also compare this millennium to Poland’s first millennium celebration in 1966, offering deep insights into the shaping of national memory and identity.

A limited number of her book, Poland: The First Thousand Years, will be available for purchase at the event.

Patrice M. Dabrowski has a PhD in History from Harvard University. She is currently an associate of the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute, a member of the Board of Directors of the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences of America, and editor of H-Poland.  Dabrowski is the author of three books: The Carpathians:  Discovering the Highlands of Poland and Ukraine (2021), Poland:  The First Thousand Years (2014), and Commemorations and the Shaping of Modern Poland(2004). In 2014, she was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland. In 2022, her Carpathians book won two Polish awards: honorable mention for Pro Historia Polonorum, an award for the best Polish history book written by a non-Polish historian in the last five years (2017-2021), as well as honorable mention in the category “best foreign publication promoting Poland’s history” sponsored by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
