About Constitution Day

Celebrated annually in Poland, Constitution Day commemorates the adoption of the May 3rd Constitution of 1791—one of the first modern constitutions in the world. It marked a pivotal moment in Poland’s history and, following the country’s regaining of independence in 1918, was officially recognized as a national holiday.

This Year’s Special Commemoration

In addition to the Polish Constitution Day Celebration, this year’s event will also honor the 1,000th anniversary of the coronation of Bolesław Chrobry, Poland’s first king, crowned in the year 1025.

Originally a duke, Bolesław Chrobry (Boleslaus the Brave) transformed Poland into a powerful European state. He expanded its territory to include Pomerania, Lusatia, and for a time, Bohemian lands. His reign marked a significant turning point in Polish history through the introduction of centralized governance, legal codification, and strong support for the Polish Church.
