The Kosciuszko Foundation and Polish American Business Club invite you to a conversation with renowned philanthropist, investor, and lawyer, Gregory Slyszyk.
Join us for an enlightening session on Szymbark Castle—the story about heritage, phenomenology, and vulture investments. Learn the unique story of the XIV-century Szymbark Castle and its journey to restoration.
Gregory Slyszyk, a respected entrepreneur, ex-lawyer, and philanthropist, is a president of the board of the EXPO XXI Warsaw, one of the largest conference centers in the capital city of Poland. As a founder of Szymbark Castle Foundation and Heritage Poland Group Foundation, Mr. Slyszyk will share with us a unique and dramatic story of Poland’s second largest gothic castle after Malbork, the XIV–century Szymbark Castle.
The castle, a center of local economic and cultural activity in Warmia and Masuria for nearly six centuries, has a rich history. It survived the Second World War unscathed, only to be burnt and destroyed by the Soviet Army after Poland’s liberation in 1945. Once the property of the powerful Prussian family von Finckensteins for almost three centuries, the castle lay in ruins until Mr. Slyszyk took on the monumental task of restoring it. He developed a unique concept of the castle’s new life and commenced the process of rebuilding.
