The Kosciuszko Foundation Washington, DC together with PAMS DMV are pleased to invite you to a special lecture by Dr. Marek Maria Pienkowski, a distinguished Polish-American physician, medical researcher, clinician, and cultural ambassador whose remarkable career bridges medicine, scientific research, and international cultural exchange.
Dr. Pienkowski earned his M.D. and Ph.D. in Immunology from the Medical University of Warsaw and continued his scientific and clinical career in the United States, conducting pioneering research in immunology, allergy, cancer, viral oncogenes, genetic engineering, and cloning. He has published more than 50 scientific papers and has developed innovative approaches to the treatment of patients with allergies, asthma, and immune disorders.
The Enigma of Post-COVID Syndrome
Post-COVID syndrome, often referred to as Long COVID, can present a complex and puzzling set of symptoms that persist or recur long after the initial infection.
“If you feel intermittently really sick and have been seen by your physician and 3–4 specialists without a diagnosis or effective therapy, you may be experiencing post-COVID syndrome.”
In this lecture, Dr. Pienkowski will explore the challenges surrounding post-COVID syndrome, including its complex and sometimes elusive symptoms, the difficulties of diagnosis, and current approaches to understanding and managing this condition.

Marek Maria Pienkowski is a Polish-American physician, medical researcher, clinician, and cultural ambassador whose career has bridged medicine, science, business, and international cultural exchange. His pioneering biomedical research has contributed to the understanding and treatment of immunological and allergic disorders, as well as research involving viral oncogenes, cancer, genetic engineering, and cloning. He has published more than 50 scientific papers and has translated his research into innovative clinical approaches for patients with allergies, asthma, and immune disorders.
Born in Poland, Pienkowski earned his M.D. and Ph.D. in immunology from the Medical University of Warsaw before continuing his scientific career in the United States. He conducted research at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia and later held academic positions at Michigan State University, followed by clinical and postdoctoral training at Henry Ford Hospital and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
In addition to his medical and scientific achievements, Pienkowski has devoted significant effort to strengthening cultural, educational, scientific, and business relationships between Poland and the United States. In 2011, he was appointed Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland, helping facilitate economic cooperation and cultural exchange. Through the Marek Maria Pienkowski Foundation and other initiatives, he has supported young artists, academic exchanges, scholarships, exhibitions, and scientific collaboration between institutions in both countries.
He is the author of Iron or Steel: A Memoir on Living Dreams and has received numerous honors for his contributions to medicine, science, culture, and Polish-American relations, including recognition as a Kosciuszko Foundation Eminent Scientist. His career reflects a longstanding commitment to combining scientific innovation with cultural understanding and international cooperation.
