Successful Completion of the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Protection Initiative

We are proud to announce the successful conclusion of the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Protection Initiative, a collaborative effort between the Kosciuszko Foundation and the Smithsonian Institution to safeguard Ukraine’s cultural legacy.

From November 2022 to December 2024, this initiative provided essential equipment, preservation tools, and emergency support to 40 institutions, ensuring the protection of invaluable artifacts, documents, and historical sites as part of the broader Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Protection effort.

Supported Institutions and Key Contributions:

  • Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv – Climate control and preservation tools
  • Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Library – Emergency power stations and archival equipment
  • Odesa Archaeological Museum – Digitization tools and conservation resources
  • Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine in Lviv – Cybersecurity and storage protection

This milestone was made possible through the dedication and collaboration of the Smithsonian Institution, the Kosciuszko Foundation – Poland, and the Folkowisko Foundation, whose efforts ensured the purchase and safe delivery of critical resources to Ukrainian institutions in need.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our partners and supporters for your unwavering commitment to preserving Ukraine’s history and cultural identity. Together, we continue to stand in solidarity to protect and honor the past for future generations.
