We Are Expanding: Welcoming New Chapters in Florida and Michigan
This month, the Kosciuszko Foundation inaugurated two new chapters, signifying a remarkable milestone in our organization's history.
March 10 marked the inauguration of the KF Florida Chapter. Members and supporters gathered at the stunning venue of New College in Sarasota to unite under a shared cause – supporting and extending the mission of the KF.
They were treated to a captivating lecture by KF Chair of the Board, author, and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Alex Storozynski, who delved into the remarkable life of the Foundation’s namesake, Tadeusz Kosciuszko. The timeless ideals of the Polish-American hero continue to resonate as strongly today as they did in the past.
Adding to the enchanting atmosphere, pianist Michal Drewnowski, Ph.D., a scholar of the Kosciuszko Foundation, and Margot Zarzycka-Whitelaw, a violinist with the Sarasota Orchestra, treated guests to a mesmerizing recital featuring works by Polish composers.
On March 25, the KF Michigan Chapter was officially opened in Orchard Lake, MI! KF President and Executive Director Marek Skulimowski participated in the inaugural event, which drew over 120 participants to the Galeria of Orchard Lake Schools.
The event’s guest speakers, Michał Olszewski, a faculty member at the University of Michigan, and Richard Walawender, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Detroit, shared heartfelt stories about the crucial role the KF played in their lives.
Both attributed their professional successes to the Foundation’s scholarships, which paved the way for their achievements. Thanks to the Kosciuszko Foundation’s support, Mr. Walawender seized the unique opportunity to study in Poland during the early 1980s’ “Solidarity era,” which eventually led to the establishment of law offices in Poland. Dr. Olszewski commenced his successful professional journey by pursuing graduate studies in medicine in the US, all made possible by the Foundation’s assistance.
The event concluded with a delightful concert by David Szczepanik on guitar and Aedan MacCauley on piano, followed by an elegant reception.
Congratulations to the KF Florida and the KF Michigan Chapters and their leadership! We eagerly anticipate their ongoing endeavors to foster educational and cultural exchanges between the US and Poland. This involvement ensures the continual growth of Polish American traditions and the expansion of KF’s mission in these regions.
