Adam Karczmarz, Krzysztof Kotowski, and Maciej Wołczyk receive 2024 Witold Lipski Prize for outstanding achievements in the field of computer science
Witold Lipski Prize 2024: Winners Announced for Young Researchers in Computer Science
On November 8, 2024, Adam Karczmarz, Krzysztof Kotowski, and Maciej Wołczyk were honored with this year’s Witold Lipski Prize, which recognizes young scientists for outstanding achievements in the field of computer science.
In the category of practical applications of computer science, this year’s laureates are Krzysztof Kotowski from the Silesian University of Technology and Maciej Wołczyk from IDEAS NCBR. Krzysztof Kotowski was recognized for his work in neuroscience, medical imaging, bioinformatics, and space technologies. Maciej Wołczyk, a post-doc at IDEAS NCBR, conducts research on improving adaptability in deep learning models, particularly in areas such as continual learning and adapting to new computational paradigms. This research is especially significant due to the growing costs of creating new AI models.
In the category of outstanding achievements in theoretical aspects of computer science, the award went to Adam Karczmarz from the University of Warsaw and IDEAS NCBR. His research focuses on the design of algorithms and data structures for graph problems and their theoretical analysis in classical computational models.
Congratulations to all the award winners!
The Witold Lipski Prize, established in 2005, commemorates the pioneer of Polish computer science, whose scientific legacy continues to inspire new generations of researchers. The award is given in two categories: theoretical aspects of computer science and practical applications of computer science. The award is organized by IDEAS NCBR, a research and development center focusing on artificial intelligence, and funded by the Kosciuszko Foundation.
